Security

Coverage

First Star Bank will refund any lost or misplaced funds originating from the unauthorized use of its online banking service resulting from:

  • An error made by us or a third party vendor acting on our behalf that causes an unauthorized or erroneous transaction to or from your account, or
  • An error made by our computer systems.

Except to the extent otherwise covered by law, our Bank Online Guarantee does not cover losses resulting from third parties that fraudulently access your computer or your online security identification and engage in transactions from your account. See Your Responsibility for more details.

Online Security

The Bank Online website has been registered with VeriSign and use VeriSign Server Ids. These Ids enable online customers to verify the authenticity of the secure Web site and to communicate with our online system via SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption. SSL encryption is designed to protect confidential information from unauthorized disclosure while in transit from your computer to ours.

Secure Access and Verification of User Authenticity

To begin a session on Bank Online, a unique sign-on ID and password are required. Upon successful sign-on, the Digital ID from VeriSign authenticates your computer’s identity and a secure socket layer connection is established between your computer and the Bank Online server.

Secure Data Transfer

Once the server session is established, the user and the server are in a secure environment. An encrypted SSL connection requires all information sent between a client and a server to be encrypted by the sending software and decrypted by the receiving software, thus providing a high degree of confidentiality. The encrypted SSL connection is equipped to automatically determine whether data sent over the connection has been altered in transit.

Internet Browser’s Security

We require the use of a secure browser with 128-bit encryption to access account information and perform transactions. Microsoft® Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator®, and Netscape Communicator are all secure browsers. Since 128-bit encryption is optional for Microsoft and Netscape Internet browsers, you should check your browser to determine if it has the correct encryption. To determine the type of encryption, click on “Help” and “About” in your browser’s menu.

Your Responsibility

To protect the security of account information, you should always follow these recommendations:

  1. NEVER reveal your Sign-On ID or Password to anyone – ever!
  2. If you suspect someone knows your password, change it immediately online.
  3. Always "Sign-off" of your session and close your browser after your completing your online transactions.
  4. Don’t leave your PC while you are logged in to the online banking system.
  5. Report any unauthorized or suspicious activities immediately.
